Privacy Policy

What information do we collect?

This site collects user names, email addresses, IP addresses, referring links, and obviously posts and profiles and anything that is included in them, such as avatar, biography, location, etc. Plus anything else that a standard nginx web server, Linux firewall, and Mastodon instance collect.

What do we use your information for?

Anything that is deemed appropriate by site management. There is, however, presently no intentional commercial or other distribution to Google, Double-Click or such spyware corporations.

This site does not cooperate with demands from non-U.S. jurisdictions for information or takedowns except as required by U.S. State or Federal Law.

How do we protect your information?

We don't protect your information, in the sense of offering any type of promise or guarantee. However, Mastodon uses SSL, which is good, and the server on which this instance runs is believed to moderately secure though probably vulnerable to DDoS.

What is our data retention policy?

We retain data for periods of up to, but usually not exceeding, 100 years. This statement is not intended to guarantee that data is deleted after 100 years or any specific period.

Logs stored outside the Mastodon PostgreSQL database may, or may not, be deleted periodically. Unless we decide to archive them.

Do we use cookies?

Of course. If we understand Mastodon correctly, though, it's the old-fashioned standard kind and not the new super-spyware kind. We encourage people to install browser add-ons that block the latter type of cookies.

Do we disclose any information to outside parties?

In cases where we decide to do so, sure, or if it's necessary to do so in a case where U.S. State or Federal laws apply, there may be no choice. There is presently no commercial use.

Note that your public content may be downloaded by other servers in the network. Your public and followers-only posts are delivered to the servers where your followers reside, and direct messages are delivered to the servers of the recipients, in so far as those followers or recipients reside on a different server than this one.

When you authorize an application to use your account, depending on the scope of permissions you approve, it may access your public profile information, your “following” list, your followers, your lists, all your posts, and your favourites.

This site and associated services are intended for people who are at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of 13, per the requirements of COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) either do not use this site or have a parent or guardian use it for you.
